Shortly after Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine, a young woman hid political messages for the citizens on supermarket price tags. Sasha Skochilenko, artist and activist was sentenced to seven years in prison in November 2022. Rudikova’s documentary meticulously shows her trial in Russia, exposes inhumane prison conditions, and follows the months-long perseverance of friends, lawyers and solidarity activists to support the artist. A film about the power and limits of hope, completed before Skochilenko was released in August 2024 as part of the international prisoner exchange program with Russia. (Dennis Vetter)
