CN: Thematization of violence
Resistance instead of family life: Kurdish women in northern Syria stand up to the IS, fighting for a life of equality and freedom. Iranian director Negin Ahmadi follows these young protagonists in her cinematic diary as they face death every day, accompanying them for eight years with her camera and rifle. She becomes part of their community, which also fights for women's empowerment in a patriarchal system. But how can she reconcile this closeness with the knowledge that she will never see some of her comrades again? (Anja Klauck)
