For more than 30 years now, the Kassel Documentary Film and Video
Festival has been presenting a European film school. For this purpose,
some of the students of the respective university, as well as their
professors, are invited to Kassel to present a selection of their works.
The discussions following the screenings allows for the audience to
engage in a conversation with the lecturers as well as the filmic
juniors.
Elena Kairytė und Sotera Kupinaitė
present a selection of works by current students as well as alumni of
KIMO National film School.
The program consists of five documentaries, created by undergraduate and graduate students over the past four years. The films range from social observation to poetic reflection. The first film in the program, NUMBER ONE – a title that fits – has been a favourite at many festivals, telling the story of boy preparing for Lithuanian Ballroom Dance Championship. In this film, competition serves as a backdrop to explore the pressure to grow up too soon. I WANT TO BE HUMAN addresses the danger of losing one's humanity, offering an intimate look at life inside a prison. In VALLEY, the focus shifts from people to horses, crafting a wordless, poetic observation of these mysterious creatures. The quiet charm of a rural Lithuanian homestead is observed in THE LITTLE MOON, while BLUE CORNER immerses viewers in the world of girls’ boxing ring, capturing a wide range of emotions that transcend the sport itself.
“Where the last house faded away in the wheat, there lived a little girl, who walked at night out in the fields, with a bucket of water to mirror the moon.”
It’s a true story, based on Tonino Guerra’s poem, about a girl who lives in a remote Lithuanian village. This single farm holds her entire world: family, beloved animals and the whole seeing moon.
