The “blue arc phenomenon” refers to the effect of perceiving arcs of light when only a single light stimulus is emitted in the dark. In the film program BLUE ARC PHENOMENON, BIG TIME! image constructions recall the phenomenon and can be metaphorically related to socio-political models of society in upheaval or transition. Caves, cities, laboratories, narratives, myths, manifestos, and appeals from individuals as glowing beacons are portrayed in a dystopian present. (Afsun Moshiry)
A spell-breaking, QUEBRANTE traverses the caves, ruins, and phantasmagorias of the Transamazon BR230 Highway, portraying its stones and its ghosts. Set in tiny Rurópolis, the first town ever built on the road, QUEBRANTE follows Ms. Erismar, a retired elementary school teacher known in the region as “The Cave Woman”.
