“It is a little bit complicated,” is how Elen starts to tell her family’s history. Her mother, who is Black, was born in France, her father, who is white, was born in Ivory Coast. And she herself was born in France and raised at the Villa Madjo, a big old family house full of historical entanglements and colonial traces. Digging deep into the family archives, she browses trough photo albums, retells the stories of the different family members, and shows us memories captured on old film footage.
