CN: Films in this program work with light effects that can trigger photosensitive people.
The extraction of natural products, whether through agriculture or mining, is one of the oldest activities of Homo sapiens. However, the exploitation of the earth, for example through monocultural cultivation or massive deforestation, has proven to be increasingly problematic since the industrialization and is leading to extinction of species and climate change. This has been known for a long time and yet it is often ignored. Through personal stories, family histories, research projects and film experiments, we approach the topic in order to finally reach an unconventional solution. (Linn Löffler)

Silenciosa, Silenciada (Silenced, Silent)

The death of his grandfather prompts the filmmaker to visit the family's former coffee plantation in Cachipay, Colombia, to research the Chagas disease, from which his grandfather suffered for years. The film not only deals with the appearance of the disease in the region, but also with the cultivation of monocultures, which, in addition to the disease, also results in environmental destruction and climate change and can be read as a direct continuation of the colonial history of the landscape, where working conditions are precarious and characterized by the exploitation of bodies.

    Valley Pride

“In southern California, agriculture is practiced in an extremely intensive manner, even by global standards, despite increasing water scarcity. VALLEY PRIDE conveys impressions of a region that, thanks to the skillful choice of setting, sometimes seems like an unknown planet. Oversized harvesting machines eat their way through fields, poorly paid and mostly (illegal) migrant workers collect the “pride of the valley”. An impressive soundtrack by Jung an Tagen contributes a great deal to this short-film menetekel.” (Bert Rebhandl / sickpackfilm)

    Spoils

Bouquets of wild flowers and spoils of war hunting trophies. Remains of food and fossils. SPOILS takes us into a flickering nature that groans under the weight of the past and the present. In high-contrast analog images and with an engaging rhythm, a critique of consumerism and colonialism is negotiated.

Radije bih bila kamen (I Would Rather Be a Stone)

Lika is a neglected and sparsely populated region in western Croatia, which was heavily affected during during World War II and was characterized by poverty and emigration. Today, 75 thousand tons of cement are being pressed into the landscape to build a reservoir. Through the voice of Little Jela, the film tells the story of the events that marked a generation and shaped the future of the landscape of Lika. The difficult living conditions impacted the personal lives of the people who lived there, their solitude, relationships, opportunities, apprehensions and hopes.

Seedbombs - A Tutorial for Ecosexual Guerilla

In this tutorial, we conspire with plants to create livable worlds by playing sensually with clay, compost, ash and seeds. We knead the earth and get wet as we learn how to make seed bombs, an ancient and sustainable way to reforest wastelands with native and edible plants. It's time to invoke other worlds into being, to conjure other worlds into this world and craft rebellious landscapes that bloom like resilient wildflowers amidst the cracks in our societal pavement.
